Colors from Tibetan flag on my Desk
SunTowers, Shipra Sun City at Indirapuram, Ghaziabad

Going home for a two week long vacation...

This time of the year, we have a company shutdown. i.e, everyone is forced to take holiday in the last week of december. i.e, the christmas week. good for people like me :) so we have holidays from 24 dec to 2 jan. i am taking extra 4 days off and flying home early in the morning tomorrow. hoping to just relax and recharge my batteries during the break... hmm... i think will be good time to sit down and think about future and make some new year resoultions. :)

for sometime i have been thinking about buying a digital SLR... since i have been using a Canos EOS 300 (Rebel 2000) for sometime and also having invested around 15k on the canon lens and other stuff, i thought the natural progression would be is to buy a Canon Digital Rebel, the entry level DSLR. i saw a Nikon D70 at a shop today and am very impressed with the look and feel of the camera. it seems to be a tough decision to make... in any case i should be ready to invest around 55k for one of these cames... I should be able to get a Digital Rebel for around 10k cheaper... anyways, will think about this once i come back to delhi...

am hoping that the flight wont be delayed because of fog... got to go home and pack....

My nephew Varun... used the technique on http://www.greggormanphotography.com for converting the image to black and white...

Corbett this weekend.....

Will be going to Corbett National Park this weekend... going there with my team in office. this trip is supposed to be for celebrating the shipping of photoshop elements 3.0, the product our team worked on recently. am carrying canon digital rebel(that belongs to the team) and my canon eos 300. hoping to get atleast a couple of good photos out of the trip.

talked to one of my best friends who is now working for qualcomm, san diego. am really glad that this job is giving him money enough to get out of debts and giving him a chance to save for himself...

I should be now attending a talk on symbolic execution by Jim King, a principal scientist at adobe. his talk yesterday about assigning meaning to programs, based on a paper by Robert Floyd was kind of OHT for me. so i thought i will skip today's talk and save myself from sleeping through the talk. thankfully all the talks are getting videographed... i hope to catch up on the video some time...

Foggy landscape at Dharamsala...

Another weekend....

Another weekend... a good 2 day break from work. not that I have been working very hard on the weekdays. anyways, i spend most of my time in front of the computer be it at work or at home. in a way weekdays are better when i move out from the workplace and play volley ball.... :)
Got up early on saturday morning as I had to get some work done at the bank... In the evening jags, mohit and i went to meet Alex and Mat at Radisson. now that the 2 week long training is over they are going back. Alex is going to china to give talks at universities in china along with Bjarne (yup, the C++ creator :) ) and Mat is heading home for a sabbatical.
So... we met Alex and Mat at the lobby and went out for a walk with them in Sector 18. visited quite a few shops... alex bought a few books by rk narayan, some supari (he wants to learn how to make paan), a gift for his dog etc... we took them to The good things store and bought kurtas for both of them. had dinner at radisson with them and talked about a variety if things ranging from food, chickoos, indian marriages, indian movies etc... Alex's knowlegde about anything and everything is really amazing be it about data structures and algorithims or be it about india... in fact on of the greatest minds/gurus i had come across...

started writing this on sunday afternoon... had to stop posting it because of a powercut in noida. these days the powercut starts at 8-30am sharp and goes on till evening... thankfully sunday was spared except for a cut for a couple of hours in the evening... went to office on sunday evening. got a mail from adobe congratulating me for working for the company for 5 years... (i am still 6 months away from my 5th anniversary at this company) and asked me to select a gift... from the list of items available i have shortlisted a Nikon® Binoculars, a Bushnell® Telescope or a Coleman 12x10 sun dome tent. still haven't decided on the gift...

5 years at work.... learnt a lot of new things and yes forgot a lot of things learnt at school. I think it is the time to start revising the things learnt at school/college... ;)

have been spending time these days reading up about photography and participating in online photography forums. here is a link to a good photog site i'd come across http://www.gormanphotography.com/gorman.html
